“Hey Fraser.”

“Hello, Ray.”

Static on the line, a thousand miles long.

“So, how is it up there, with…”

Without me...

“…all those polar bears?”

“Ah, well, there aren’t in fact that many polar bears in the location of…”

Yay, another Inuit tale.

“...and so as you can see, I’m doing fine.”

“Fine?”

“Nothing to worry about.”

Why would I worry?

“I’m not worried. I just…”

Miss you.

“What, Ray?”

Can’t see you, your face, your eyes. Can’t touch you.

“Just keep talking. That’s all. I want to hear your voice.”

“We’ll be back together soon.”

“I know. Keep talking.”

Thank you so much for not specifying which "Ray" is in the story. :-)

I know this sounds strange, but I like stories in other fandoms that let you put your favorite character in the story. But I haven't found many "choose the Ray that you prefer" stories in Due South. Kowalski is the big winner in this fandom. He's in so many more stories than Ray Vecchio, and he's the one who's most thought of as Fraser's romantic partner, and so become much more important than Ray in the fandom.

In this story, however, I can decide that Fraser is talking to Ray, not Kowalski. Fraser's in Canada, but he and Ray are not separated forever. And Ray will call Fraser "Benny" before they have to hang up.:-)
