Bingo cards and badges

  • Jan. 1st, 2019 at 3:17 PM
Welcome to [community profile] fan_flashworks Bingo!

How to play:

STEP ONE: Post a comment below requesting a bingo card.

STEP TWO: Fill any particular square by posting a fanwork using that prompt. (Remember, all works posted must also meet the current round's prompt, unless you're posting during an Amnesty round!)

STEP THREE: To earn a bingo, fill squares that form a straight line on your card. The line can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal through the middle.

STEP FOUR: When you've earned a bingo, come back to this post and respond to the comment where you received your card. Tell us which prompts you used and the works that you posted, and we'll award you your badge!

For example:

Hi! I'd like to claim the Bingo badge with the following five works:

Pleased to meet you! (Introductions)
Let's try that again (Do-Over)
Five by five (Any Prompt square: Five Things)
What Trevor saw (Witness)
Snow apples (Ice)

STEP FIVE: If you want, keep playing after your first bingo to earn the Silver badge (for your second bingo) and the Gold badge (for your third bingo).

The game ends on July 1st, 2019. All badges must be claimed by July 10th.

A few additional rules:

- Only one card per person.
- Only works posted after you receive your card can be counted toward bingos.
- You can use the center Any Prompt (Free Square) for only one bingo. Additional bingos must be made with five prompts listed on your card.
- All works must also meet the current round's prompt unless you're posting during an Amnesty round.

Achievement Badges

We hope these badges will inspire you to create more work and different kinds of work, to take risks and to be productive. Although there is currently no rule against claiming a new badge for your pre-existing fanworks on the comm, we encourage you to enter into the spirit of the badges as spurs to creativity and exploration and to produce new works to earn new badges.

Tracking your progress will be up to you. When you think you qualify for one or more of these badges, please let us know by contacting us here or by email at fanflashworks at gmail. We'll verify your eligibility and give you the go-ahead to claim the badge as your own.

Once you've earned a badge, you can post it wherever you like: in your userinfo, in posts on your journal or on another website. Go ahead and hotlink if you want! (See the bottom of this post for more detailed instructions if you need them!)

Thanks so much to [personal profile] ponderosa and [livejournal.com profile] hardboiledbaby (and [personal profile] storyfan and [livejournal.com profile] bghost) for suggesting this idea to us in the first place! We are always interested in your suggestions for adding to or improving these. We'd like to add medium-specific sections, for instance, so you could earn badges for practicing skills unique to vidding or writing or podficcing, etc. More genre options would be fun, too. And we're sure there are plenty of things we haven't even considered yet!

More detailed image-linking instructions:

Once you've been mod-approved to take a badge, here's what you do:

1. Right-click on the image of the badge you've earned. You should see something like "Copy Image URL" or "Copy Image Link". Choose that.
2. If you are posting the badge on Tumblr, choose to post a photo and then to "use URL". Paste in the link you copied above.
3. If you are putting the image in your LJ or DW userinfo or in a post on LJ or DW, copy the line below, pasting it where you want the image to appear:

<img src="IMAGE LINK GOES HERE" alt="NAME OF BADGE.">

(Make sure you change IMAGE LINK GOES HERE to the link you got in step
one, and NAME OF BADGE to the name of the badge, leaving the quotation
marks and periods in place. The alt text makes your badge visible to
people who use screenreaders or other tools for the visually
impaired.)

Admin: Badge changes

  • Aug. 18th, 2018 at 9:25 PM
As many of you have noticed, our badge server has been down for the last couple of weeks. This is the second time in two years that the server has been down for more than a few days. Unfortunately, we don't know when or if the server will come back online.

In order to provide more reliable access to the badges, we mods have decided to move them to imgur.com.

If you have your badges posted somewhere and would like to update them to the new hosting, we have created a new Google doc with all of the new badge links.

I'm very sorry for the inconvenience!

Sadly, the server with the badge images is down again. We're not sure what the problem is yet, but are working to fix it.

Admin: Birthday Badges

Only fanworks posted in February 2017 count towards these badges, and you must apply for them by March 10. The deadline has passed. You can no longer claim these badges.

Fifth Anniversary Birthday Badges

The Celebrator
Post 3 works in February 2017.

The Bon Vivant
Post 4 works in February 2017, including at least two fandoms AND at least two media AND at least one in the first five days of a round.

Note: A crossover work counts toward one fandom, but you can choose which fandom you want it to represent. Similarly, a single mixed-media work counts for one medium, but the creator can choose which one.

Applying for birthday badges

If you are applying for the Celebrator, reply to the Celebrator comment and:
- list the titles of THREE fanworks posted to the comm in February 2017.

If you are applying for the Bon Vivant, reply to the Bon Vivant comment and:
- list the titles of FOUR fanworks posted to the comm in February 2017
- next to EACH fanwork, include fandom and medium (you must include works for at least two fandoms and two media)
- next to ONE fanwork that was posted in the first 5 days of a round, list the posting date.

For example:

Hi, I'm applying for the Bon Vivant with the following four works:

Christmas in Wonderland (Sherlock BBC, podfic)
Another Reason to Stay (Yuri!!! on Ice, podfic)
Six Icons (Yuri!!! on Ice, icons) posted Feb 13
The Last Time We Said Goodbye (Rivers of London, podfic)
