Title: A Fish Out of Water
Author: [personal profile] jordannamorgan
Fandom: Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (but can be read without knowledge of the anime, simply as a nineteenth-century zombie apocalypse tale).
Characters: Suzuki and an original character.
Setting: Pre-canon.
Rating: Very mild PG for zombie-invasion references.
Length: 1,137 words.
Summary: After the rise of the Kabane, a young sailor’s new life begins with a new name.
Notes: Also written for the prompt “Pre-Canonfic” at [community profile] genprompt_bingo. Please note that the English name I’ve given Suzuki here is entirely my own invention. I wanted to explore the assumption that he must have originally had an English name—and after learning one meaning of the word suzuki in Japanese, it amused me to think that it could be a literal translation.

Challenge 230: Language

  • Jun. 11th, 2018 at 1:59 PM
Our new challenge is:

As always, you can interpret the prompt literally or figuratively, in whatever way works for you and your preferred fandom and medium.

Each work created for this challenge should be posted as a new entry to the comm. Posting starts now and continues up until the challenge ends at 4pm Pacific Time on Wednesday, June 20th. No sign-up required.

Mods will tag your work with fandom, media and challenge. When you've posted entries to three consecutive challenges, you will earn a name tag, and we'll go back and tag all your previous entries with your name.

All kinds of fanworks in all fandoms are welcome. Please have a look at our guidelines before you play. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact a mod. And if you have any suggestions for future challenges, you can leave them in the comments of this post.

Also, keep an eye out for the next [community profile] ffw_social post, which will go up in the next couple of days. If you haven't joined the comm yet, it's never too late to come and check it out. (Remember, posts are locked, which means you have to join to see them.)

[community profile] fan_flashworks is an all-fandoms multi-media flashworks community. We post a themed challenge every ten days or so; you make any kind of fanwork in response to the challenge and post it here. More detailed guidelines are here.
