Title: Needed Sweets
Fandom: Yami no Matsuei
Rating: PG
Length: 1,066
Content notes: AU in which the characters are human (albeit that supernatural things are still a thing), fluffy romance from afar
Author notes: I couldn't think of another pairing that exemplifies "sweet and sour" than Wakaba Kannuki and Hajime Terazuma, and so I thought I'd write
Summary: In a lifetime where Wakaba and Terazuma married and have separated, Terazuma finds he's having a harder time letting go of sweet Wakaba than he expected.

You gotta work on your people skills... )
Title: Music From the Ood Sphere
Fandom: Doctor Who
Rating: PG
Length: 260
Content notes: Alien POV, references to prior xenophobia
Author notes: For a while, I scratched my head over what to write for this prompt. And then I thought of one of my favorite Doctor Who soundtrack cuts, the Oods' Song of Slavery and Freedom and I knew where to start: I've wondered what happened to that Ood-hating guy who ended up as an Ood, if he ever managed to adapt to his new family and if they welcomed him, so I thought I'd show that...
Summary: After his transmutation into an Ood, Klineman Halpen finds a new voice and a new song among his new tribe.

Death Note - Fanfiction - "Shoe Aversion"

  • Sep. 9th, 2014 at 12:47 AM
Title: "Shoe Aversion"
Fandom: Death Note
Rating: PG
Length: 359
Content notes: Possible mild AU (It's been a little while since I watched the anime/read the manga), mild crack and snarkiness
Author notes: This was literally the first thing I thought of when I saw this challenge, mostly because... I dress an awful lot like a female L, right down to the frequent lack of footwear, even in cold weather (though I assure you, I wear footgear if going out).
Summary: Matsuda annoys Mogi by chattering about L's lack of footwear

You ever see a guy do that )
Title: "Impromptu Tea Table"
Fandom: Torchwood
Rating: PG
Length: 740
Content notes: Mpreg, and gentle snarking about the inconveniences that come with pregnancy. Implied Jack/Ianto. AU/alternate timeline.
Author notes: One of my favorite tropes featuring one of my favorite characters to play that trope with. Got the idea from one gal's photo of herself during her third trimester, and it looked like something Jack would do in similar circumstances.
Summary: Yet another reason why Jack is "never doing that again", the discomforts of the third trimester, but at least his sense of humor has survived, to Tosh's concern.

With Jack into his eighth month carrying Ianto's child... )

Gormenghast - Fanfiction - "Utter Hatred"

  • Aug. 20th, 2014 at 6:46 PM
Title: "Utter Hatred"
Fandom: Gormenghast
Rating: PG
Length: 918
Content notes: No warnings to speak of, aside from animosity between the two players. Possible Steerpike/Titus, if you tilt your head sideways, also a blending of the BBC miniseries and the books.
Author notes: I thought of these two immediately, when I first saw this prompt: it fits them a little too well, as there is utterly no love between them (and there are hints, both in Mervyn Peake's unused notes and in the mini-series, that they might be half-brothers who share the same father....)
Summary: Steerpike sets a trap of words for the young Earl...

You've bucked your duty to the Stones and to the Ritual yet again )
Title: The Door to the Ghouls' Realm
Fandom: The Red Tree (Caitlin R. Kiernan)
Rating: PG-13
Length: 832
Content notes: Addendum of sorts to part of the story within a story; violence (implied and otherwise), blood, and weird doings among strange creatures; period specific unfavorable portrayal of Native Americans.
Author notes: Written for the "Doorway" challenge: the idea for this jumped out at me while I was reading the book itself; I'd gotten a bit stuck trying to come up with something to base off this prompt, so I took the chance in this. Be warned: there are dark doings ahead; it's inspired by Caitlin R. Kiernan, it's gonna be dark.
Summary: From Joseph Pearing Olney's diary, a fevered dream at the foot of the Red Tree.

Title: "Between Two Families"
Fandom: The Fox Woman (Kij Johnson)
Rating: PG-13
Length: 732 words
Content notes: Set immediately after the ending. References to past marital infidelity, historical customs (Heian era Japan) that might be construed as sexism
Author notes: I recently finished reading Kij Johson's exquisite fantasy novel "The Fox Woman", set in Heian-era Japan and based on several fox legends, in which a human falls in love with a fox who has transformed into a human. I loved the story, but it ended on a bit of a question mark, and so I thought I'd take a look at at one answer to that question. There's also a little bit of Akira Kurosawa's "Rashomon", since I have three different takes on the same events.
Summary: Kitsune leaves a sign to Yoshifuji; he makes his choice.
