Matt is always alert. When he hears a creak and a heartbeat come from what should be an empty fire escape he spins, cane in hand and at the ready.

"Is that anyway to greet an old friend?"

"Hello, Natasha," he says, relaxing. "It's been a long time."

"I've been busy."

"I know. 'Unknown redhead repels alien invasion, news at eleven.'"

"I had help."

"A new team, I saw. I'm happy for you."

"If you wanted-"

"No, my place is here, on the streets."

"I had to ask." She kisses his cheek and is gone before he can say goodbye.
