So there's a really fun account on various social media, I follow them on bluesky - artbutmakeitsports - and they take sports photos (borrowed with credit) and find art pieces that match. This kinda bumps into my collection of art history classes I took in college, plus some of the photography composition I learned in photography classes. So, let's go...

let's start off with some hockey

like a big win - the sea of red jerseys, Barkov's arms in the air holding up the cup, and the spray, matches up with the raised arms and the flames of the painting:


and a defeat - poor McDavid:


a big slide - i like how well the poses match up on this one:


breaking up a fight - the Oilers players are even bent in the right places to match the pillars:



how about the game of fútbol:

kicking to the side - all of the limbs just going in the same directions:


kicking up while falling down - some of these abstract ones are almost better than the rest, making things match up, sometimes shapes, sometimes colors:

and the one with the baskets:

laying down on the job - this one the acct explained as wanting to match positions and the headband/halo:


reach for the sky - another fun abstract work where the shapes match up nicely with the photo:

it's not always paintings, there's also some matching sculpture (this one is really impressive):

we've even got some tennis - even the colors work out a bit on this one:



a flying gymnast (Simone Biles, of course) - and i'm pretty sure the photo side is from a video explaining how freaking high that powerhouse of a woman leaps into the air during her tumbling passes:



and whatever the hell this is (this is one of my faves - it's uncanny how well this works):


and let's not forget the sportscasters - i love how they're faces are close matches:



it's not all team or ball sports either - how about a little horse racing:


and, hey, sometimes it's just some kid in the crowd at an NC State - Duke game, probably grumpy about Duke scoring or winning:



it was really hard to narrow these down bc there are so many really amazing ones to pic from. if i pulled all of my faves and all of the ones i thought were just spot-on, this post would be 9x's as long.
