Title: 지성의 경치 | The scenery of Dixing
Fandom: Guardian
Rating: G
Length: 209 words (Korean), 284 words (English translation)
Notes: Ji Xiaobai, set after the Mirror Girl case. Apologies for the probably hundreds of mistakes in the Korean. English translation included.
Summary: The scenery of Dixing isn't like the scenery of other countries.

The scenery of Dixing is not like the scenery of other places. In Dixing it's very dark, like a moonless night, so you who came from Haixing can barely see. If someone was passing by, you wouldn't even see their face. Tall shadowy buildings line the streets, and when you try to see the overhead arches that span the streets, all you can see are shadows. Because it's Dixing.

There's no sky above. No weather, either. It makes no sense, and when you think about it, it's a bit creepy. If you think about it too much, it gets hard to breathe.

But here, where you can't see them, in houses and in the streets, there are people. Happy people, frustrated people, people who are suffering and in trouble, people living exciting lives, living alone or with family -- just like anywhere else, here there are all kinds of people. Each lives according to their circumstances, according to their luck. These people all belong here.

You don't belong. For you, being here is a strange and uncomfortable dream, and if you don't find your way home soon, you'll be in big trouble. If you stay here too long, you might not be able to wake up from this dangerous dream. Because one of Dixing's special sights is the most dangerous place in two worlds.

Still, even though you're not adventurous, you decided to come here. You had to come, for love. For the promise you made. For the one you love the most. Even though you were afraid, you came. You came to find her, the one you know best, the one you love the most. You're going to rescue her and take her home.

I don't know how it reads in Korean, but in English it is gorgeous. ♥

Thanks! ♥ It's very weird translating it -- you'd think it'd be straightforward, but I think my "voice" in Korean is a bit different. :D

I think translating is an unacknowledged art. You have to translate the sense of a work, along with the words. And different cultures value different things/aspects, place the weight differently. It's very complex. ♥

True! Plus different languages just do things differently. One of the TTMIK lessons said English tends to be more focused on nouns, and Korean more focused on verbs. (Like, roughly the difference between "I've eaten [all the cake]" and "I [finished eating] the cake", I think? Idk.)

Oh, this is beautiful in English (no understanding of Korean here). It is super impressive you are writing in Korean!

Thanks so much! (I'm very much a beginner so it's bound to be full of terrible typos, but I'm enjoying it tremendously! :-)]

That's some gorgeous imagery! ♡ (In English, since my Korean is somewhere in the 'have yet to even finish learning the alphabet' stage. xD)
