Shen Wei stepped out of the house and into the garden behind it early in the morning. Zhao Yunlan was still fast asleep, but Shen Wei always enjoyed feeling the rays of early sun on his face. It made something swell in him, that this was really their home now, with their garden, their place to spend the rest of their lives in. It was only their second night here, but he didn't think he'd ever get used to it.

Sad meowing reached him from above.

Shen Wei looked up to see Da Qing high up on the roof. He frowned, worried that Da Qing was hurt, and teleported himself to him without second thought.

"Are you okay?" he asked, kneeling next to Da Qing's feline form.

"Yes, Professor Shen, you don't need to—" Da Qing changed into his human form and rolled away from Shen Wei's attempts at checking him over.

"So what—"

"It's high up here, okay." Da Qing looked away. "I didn't realise."

Shen Wei blinked rapidly. "You got stuck?"

"Someone locked the attic windows with dark energy."

Oh. Right. He just wanted to make sure that Zhao Yunlan would be safe, but he hadn't thought that one through, had he? He was rather sure he'd find cat fur all over his best suits tomorrow in retaliation.

"I apologise," Shen Wei said. "Have you been here for long? You should've called for us."

Da Qing shrugged. "I'm fine. Take me down now?"

Shen Wei nodded. He pressed one hand to Da Qing's shoulder and safely brought them back down to the garden.

Da Qing changed back into a cat. "Don't tell lao-Zhao?"

Ah, so that was why he hadn't yelled for them. It was true that Zhao Yunlan would've teased him mercilessly. Shen Wei felt somehow responsible and he knew the value of discretion, anyway.

"Of course not. Come, I'll make you breakfast. I bought salmon yesterday."

Da Qing's answering meow was appreciative.
