“You execute her or I'll execute you both!” Jack’s words came out as a snarl.

“I won't do it. You can't make me. You like to think you're a hero. But you're the biggest monster of all,” Ianto replied, voice filled with disgust and loathing.

How dare Jack give him such an ultimatum? That was Lisa!

‘Used to be Lisa,’ a traitorous little voice whispered. ‘Lisa would never do what that monster is doing.’

It made no difference, she still looked like Lisa, how could he be expected to point a gun at her and pull the trigger? Even if she wasn’t the woman he loved anymore, he knew he’d never be able to follow Jack’s order, regardless of the very real possibility that the captain would carry out his threat. Ianto would willingly have died to save the woman he loved; now he might die anyway. He couldn’t save her, but he could refuse to end her life

Everything he’d done, everything he’d gone through, had been for nothing; all he had left was his integrity. He’d promised Lisa he’d do everything he could to help her; he wasn’t going to break that promise, wouldn’t be her executioner. If Jack wanted her dead, he’d have to do it himself.

Ianto knew now that he was losing Lisa, but at least he wouldn’t have her blood on his hands. Right now, that was the best outcome he could hope for.

Poor Ianto! There really was no good choice for him in that situation. Because really, the choice was taken from him months before, when Lisa was partially converted. Dying with integrity has something to be said for it!

I wonder if Jack really thought Ianto could or would follow through with that order. I imagine it would be very hard to put a bullet into someone you once loved, even if intellectually you know they weren't themselves anymore!

I think Jack was lashing out, being intentionally cruel because he was angry, scared, and like any other human, reacting badly. He wanted to get back at Ianto for his comments and accusations. Neither of them showed themselves in a good light.

It almost didn't matter that Lisa was no longer Lisa, she still looked like the woman he loved, spoke with her voice... It would be nearly impossible to simply shrug that off, even if he hadn't been protecting and caring for her for months. Jack might as well have told Ianto to put the gun to his own head, in fact Ianto would most likely have found that a much easier order to follow. He'd failed Lisa, that would have been a horrible realisation and Ianto might have felt he didn't deserve any better.

Thank you.

Jack let his emotions get the better of him. Poor leadership on his part to put anyone in that position.

Yeah, I think Ianto's comments touched a nerve and between that, the realisation that he'd been played, and his natural fear of the Cyberwoman (because he knew what it could do and understood better than Ianto that it wasn't Lisa anymore), he reacted badly. I actually like that. Yes, he's the leader, but he's also human and far from perfect, he doesn't always get it right. The situation just spiralled out of control, Jack and Ianto saw each other at their worst, and maybe that was a good thing in the end.

Thank you.
