Garibaldi loved a good mystery, or a bad mystery, and this one was a doozy. Maintenance guy fixed a problem with the power relays in Grey Sector, which was wild enough in the first place, because how often did THAT happen? Anyway, he did the job, then promptly vanished, from a closed space station. There was no way! He had to still be there, somewhere, but when Garibaldi set out to investigate, the first thing he discovered was that Grey Sector was missing an entire level, which was impossible.

The schematics said thirty levels, chief of maintenance said twenty-nine, and… Well, you don’t construct a five-mile-long space station and just forget to build a level. No, something was definitely hinky. Just like the missing maintenance guy, the missing level had to be there, somewhere, it was just a case of finding it, and Garibaldi wasn’t going to stop until he did.

In retrospect, he almost wished he had, because there were some experiences a sane man could do without, such as getting captured by an underground cult, and being hunted by a Zarg. He didn’t want to know how Jeremiah got that thing aboard the station without him knowing about it, but it was a relief to have killed it.

On the plus side, he’d rediscovered an entire level that could now be fixed up and put into use. The extra space might prove useful. It was making him wonder though… Babylon 5 was completed in a hurry; how many other areas of the station might have been left unfinished and forgotten about?

Maybe he could make that a project to work on during his off hours, check the number of floors in each sector matched what was on the schematics… Then again, maybe he was better off not knowing.

The End
