The thirst for knowledge had driven Daniel ever since he was a boy, a desire to learn more about the past, and about other cultures. His life could have taken a very different direction if circumstances had been even slightly different. Who knew what he might be doing now if he’d taken a different route?

Maybe if he hadn’t theorised that the pyramids were landing sites for alien spacecraft, and thereby destroyed the reputation he’d been building in his field, by now he’d be highly respected amongst his fellow archaeologists, instead of a pariah. He could be teaching at a prestigious university, taking part in well-funded digs, writing important academic papers… Then again, maybe blowing up his career had been inevitable, and instead of having the respect of his peers, he’d be stuck in some dead-end job, teaching night classes in English as a second language, or something equally depressing.

He'd gotten lucky though, the right people, or person anyway, had heard his theories, he’d been invited to join the SGC, although it hadn’t been called that at the time, had figured out what the stargate was, gotten it working, gone through it on that first mission to Abydos, and now…

The thirst for knowledge was still there, stronger than ever, but now it had been joined by a thirst for adventure, for exploring new worlds, learning about new cultures, some of which had parallels back on earth, and others that were completely alien. The Asgard and the Nox sprung to mind.

Beneath the fascinations of gate travel and exploration, however, Daniel still harboured another thirst, for revenge against the Goa’uld. They’d taken his wife from him, turned Sha-re into a host for one of their kind; now Sha-re was dead, he wanted to destroy the Goa’uld if he could.

The End
