"Why are you in my office?" Harvey asked as he strode in to stand behind his desk, peering at the junior attorney lurking.

"I was just bringing you this file on the -"

"Great. Now get out. And never come in my office when I'm not here again." He accepted the file and sat in his chair.

The junior attorney muttered an apology, then turned to leave.

Before the young attorney left, he called: "Rachel."

She stopped at the door and turned around.

"What are you apologizing for?" he asked without looking up from his computer.

"I'm sorry what?" she asked.

The corner of his mouth quirked up, then fell again. A slow blink, then he raised his head. "Why are you apologizing?"

Rachel frowned. "You were mad at me for being in your office..."

"No I wasn't."

"Then why did you tell me never to come in here..."

"It was a test." He folded his hands together and leaned on them, elbows on the desk. "Why didn't you stand up to me? You had a legitimate reason to be in here and Donna obviously gave you the okay. Why didn't you fight?"

"Um -" She stood there a moment, thinking. Even looked over her shoulder to glance at Donna's desk where the assistant was busy working (though Harvey knew she was also listening, like always). "I don't know. I figured you were busy and just wanted me out of the way."

"I am busy, but I also need my associates to do their jobs and bring me files I need. I also need them to have a backbone and be willing to argue with me where necessary. This was minor, but the challenge would've been justified."

Rachel nodded. "Right. Got it. Fight with Harvey."

He smirked at her. "Get the hell out of my office."

"But you just -"

"Go."
