There were stories about dragons and their treasure, in Cephiro. (There were stories of various kinds of creatures called dragon and their precious objects and treasure hoards on earth, too. Like a few words of languages now unspoken in Cephiro, if they ever had been aside from a few phrases.)

There was a room in the Shrine of Water, tucked away, where the gifts and offerings brought by the people who found their way there deliberately through the ages. (Save for those which were perishable, which did not take well to being kept.) Most were small, personal items: a river-polished pebble with a glittering line of crystal through it, a bright feather, a tiny and lumpen piece of yarn – someone’s first spinning project. A tiny painting of a loved one in a locket made of a shell.

But among them lay a few other items, things which had been bequeathed to the Shrine.

A half-dozen swords of escudo, all different in their form and their decoration. The materials and the skill in making them would make each highly valuable, but that was hardly the reason they were the greatest of these small treasures, even though the wish that there would never be a need for another one circled slowly through the very air of the Shrine.

But it was not for this dragon to make wishes. Only to help grant them. And so the little treasures grew, accompanying him in his dreaming hall.

(Perhaps one day, someone would fulfil that wish for him.)
