Aspasia knows the feel of eyes watching her every movement. She knows how to call them, how to let them linger and how slip away, natural as the fish that dart among reeds. There is a politics to it, not that the men of Athena’s city would recognise it as such.

The eagle bearer is no different in that awareness.

She is politer than some – even working with Perikles her husband is not enough to dissuade others from assuming liberties – but Aspasia has very little doubt that, were she to offer, they would share an enjoyable evening. There are reports enough of her exploits across the breadth of Greece for that to be assumed.

But Aspasia has no intention of being just another tally on her chiton, pleasant or otherwise as it may be. An object easily won is little valued - Kassandra will have to work to win her pleasure. And Aspasia will encourage her every step of the way.
