Summary: Werewolf!Lucas 'verse.  Harry Pearce has plans which involve a dog basket.

As Lucas and Adam came onto the Grid, Jo called, “Harry wants us in his office now!”

Lucas looked over at Adam, who shrugged his shoulders, having no idea what Harry Pearce was planning.  They entered his office, to see a large dog basket taking up most of Harry’s desk.

“Do you think this will fit you, Lucas?” Harry asked.

“I can try if you like,” Lucas said, preparing to climb onto the desk.

“Thank you, but that won’t be necessary.  And please be careful with the basket, it has been especially constructed to hide documents in the base.”

“Most ingenious, Harry, but I fail to see the purpose of it,” Adam said.

“We need to smuggle some documents out of a certain venue, and no-one will think of looking in a dog basket,” Harry said.

“And how do we explain bringing a large dog basket to the venue?” Ros asked.

Harry looked at her coldly.  “It will be for the large dog you are also bringing.”

“So our operation is taking place next full moon?”

“Quite correct.”

“Which of us will have the dog basket in our room?” Jo asked.

“You’ll be there as best friends and therefore sharing a room, so there will be no problem.”

“What?” Ros and Jo chorused.

“Now that’s all settled,” Harry said cheerfully, “I leave you to sort the details between you.”

They left Harry’s office and returned to their own seats.

“Let’s get one thing clear,” Ros said.  “Lucas, you are either sleeping in the basket or sharing with Jo.  I am not having you sleeping on my bed.”

“Spoil sport!” Lucas said with a grin.

Two weeks later Harry came onto the Grid looking pleased.

“I presume everything went well,” Ros said.

“Oh yes, the documents were exactly as hoped,” Harry replied.  “There was some concern given the condition of the basket, but since you had carefully wrapped the documents in plastic, they were all intact.  What exactly did you do to the basket?”

“Jo and I had gone down to breakfast, leaving Lucas in the room, guarding the documents.  While we were eating, one of the management team came over and said they needed to check our room, as there was an electrical problem, so could we move our dog, since he started growling as soon as anyone tried to go into the room.”

“Doesn’t sound very plausible,” Adam said.

“We didn’t think so, either.  Anyway, I returned to the room and went in, followed by two so-called electricians.  Lucas was sitting in his basket.  I said, ‘Come along, Ambrose, we need to let these nice men take a look at our room in peace,’ and felt a complete idiot as I did so.”

“I know that feeling!”

“Lucas whined but got out of the basket and began pulling it towards the door with his teeth.  One of the electricians started to say he didn’t need to take his bed, but then rapidly changed his mind, so I picked up the basket and carried it down.  Which should explain the tooth marks.”

Jo took over the story.  “We put the basket in an alcove, and I gave him a sausage.  And then, of course, the staff kept giving him titbits, and bits got dropped in the basket.  And you know how fond he is of tomato sauce.”

“So the basket not only had tooth marks, but generally looked like a dog’s breakfast,” Adam said, unsuccessfully trying to hide a smirk from Harry.

Harry huffed.  “I do wish you’d all take better care of government property.  However, it was a success, so I won’t say any more.”  He departed for his office.

“Some people are just so ungrateful,” Lucas said, with a smirk that matched Adam’s.
