I watched Holmes working at his scrapbook. His face was alight with the pleasure he ever derived from that task, and I thought it utterly bewitching. Screwing up my courage, I approached him at the table. He looked up at the sound of my footsteps, and I bent to kiss him. He was evidently surprised by this but indicated that I had not misjudged with a little hum of pleasure. When I drew back, his smile matched my own.

“I love you,” I murmured.

“And I you,” he replied.

I gave him another brief kiss. “I should like to take you to bed, if you’re willing.”

He looked a little shy. “I have never been intimate with someone before.”

I smiled at him reassuringly. “We can go at your pace.”

He nodded and I gently drew him to his feet. I led him into his bedroom, then locked the door behind us. I then drew him into my arms and kissed him again. He opened his lips for me, and our tongues caressed pleasurably. Between our kisses we divested each other of clothing until not a stitch remained between us. I lay him back against the bed and allowed my eyes to feast on his bare form. He was breath-taking, his pale skin dotted with marks that I longed to catalogue.

“My love,” I murmured, “you’re gorgeous.”

“As are you,” he replied, his eyes roving over my body with evidently equal pleasure. “You’re perfect, John.”

I lay down with him and took him in my arms once more. With our hands and mouths we brought each other to bliss, then lay together, boneless and sated.

“I love you,” he murmured as he laid his head on my chest.

“I love you too,” I replied, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
