Standing in front of the mirror, Ray changed his shirt for about the hundredth time. Sighing in frustration he looked up to see his brother watching in with an amused smile on his face.

Glaring at his brother Ray asked, “What are you grinning at, James?”

James shook his head, laughing lightly as he moved from the doorway to his baby brother’s side. Placing a hand on his shoulder, James spoke. Amusement filled his voice. “Ray, relax, everything will be OK.”

Taking Ray by the shoulders, James turned his brother so he was facing him before speaking again. “Ray, you have known him years. It’s going to be great just you wait, you’ll see. So quit worrying about what to wear.”

Ducking his head Ray nodded. “I know, I know, it’s just this is our first actual date, James and I don’t want to let him down. I don’t want Work-Ray showing up, you know.”

Raising an eyebrow James asked. “Work-Ray?”

Going into his cop’s stance, Ray bounced on his toes as he told James. “Ya, you know, the Shake-Bad-Guys-Shake Ray. I want him to see the romantic, non-work Ray.”

Clipping his brother around the back of the head in an affectionate way, James laughed. “Shake bad guys shake? Ray, you do crack me up, he will love you for you. Now you’s better get going, you’re meeting him at seven, right?”

Looking at his watch Ray nodded, “Ya we are meeting at the restaurant. Shrugging on his jacket Ray turned to James, smiling. “Thanks James, wish me luck.”

Smiling proudly at his little brother, James replied, fixing his brothers jacket. “That you don’t need Ray. Relax, go and enjoy yourself.”

Feeling the pride coming from his big brother, Ray left for his first real date with Ben.

Ben sat on his best friend’s bed with his head in his hands, muttering. “Ray, are you sure what I am wearing is right for my date? Should I not be wearing my dress reds as it is our first date?”

Sitting down next to his best friend, Ray Vecchio spoke softly. “Benny, the guy sees you in your uniform every day. This is a date. For a date you dress nice, so what you are wearing is perfect for the meal and the game.”

Glancing at his friend Ben asked, “Are you sure? I don’t want to get it wrong.”

Placing a hand on his friend’s shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze, Ray replied, “Trust me Benny, everything will work out. Come on, I’ll drop you off at the restaurant, yer meeting at seven, right?”

Nodding, Ben replied, “Yes Ray, we are. Thank you, Ray.”

Slapping his friend’s back Ray smiled. “Pleasure, Benny.”

Feeling a little more confident, Ben left with his best friend to meet who was now ‘his Ray’ for their first real date.
