Title: Two Venues, Four Performance Spaces

Photographer notes: It's not just lighting that makes a difference to photographing bands live, the stage (and whether there is one at all) can make your life a lot easier or harder. These are the four stages and non-stages at the two venues where I spend most of my time.

Taffy playing in the main room at the Brudenell, Leeds. My favourite stage by far of my local venues to photograph. The room layout is great too, with comfortable seats and plenty of places to leave my camera bag!

Yowl in the Games Room at the Brudenell. This is the trickiest at this venue, as there's no real stage, and the curtains are often left open at various places so you can see the stuff on the walls and don't have the illusion of it being only a performance space. It has a special place in my heart though as I saw Trampolene play there last November for the first time.

Since we're at the Brudenell we might as well cover the third and final stage there. This is the one I'm least familiar with, the Community Room. Shiny background but a perfectly good stage to photograph. Loses points for desperately uncomfortable sloped wooden seating in this room though, ouch.

Fat Spatula at the Crescent, York. Tricky room, no stage, and you're restricted on position if you don't want to see the bar or emergency exits feature prominently in the photos. Great place to see bands all the same.
