Summary: Snow making purfles and lace

Winter's Bed

The snow falls, silent, lighting the dark
Soft white pillows
Crystalline sheets
Cold coverlets
Lacy purfles making Winter's bed

An invitation to sleep until the Spring
As do the seeds,
The wild creatures:
Nut-full squirrels,
The round, brown, clever bears

But words know no season,
Are not chilled
By six-fold symmetry
Settling in stillness
Nor made dumb by cold white counterpanes

Draw back the covers, then
Let the words burn warm
On the hearth of the heart
Bringing forth light in dark seasons

And illuminate
The crumpled wet grey velvet slopes
The ice-bright spiderweb of trees
