“I will not abandon all hope of seeing my sons again, merely because the Valar say it is for the best,” Nimloth said. “I accept that I will not see them again before the final battle, but afterwards the world will be remade and it will not be done by them.”

“But death is the gift the Secondborn have been given,” Finrod said.

“And what of the marring? How can you say that gift would have been the same if Morgoth had not interfered, when none of us know what would have been?”

“Do you think eternal life is a gift?” Finrod asks?

“No. I think a loving family is a gift, and being allowed to remain with them is an even greater gift, son of Finarfin.” She sees Finarfin flinch minutely where he sits, and she knows she has convinced one more person of her beliefs.
