Summary: It wasn't fair. Caranthir could too keep a pet, and he shouldn't have to share with Celegorm, regardless of what Curufin said.



“Moryo!” Caranthir screwed up his eyes at this. She was his! Just because Celegorm and Curufin wanted her too, and Celegorm kept arguing that her stripes were closest to his hair color, so he should get the new kitten, didn’t mean he actually had to give her up.

He grabbed her and held her closer, scooting backwards until he was under the overhang for the window and behind the bush. If Ata couldn’t find him, Ata couldn’t make him share.

“Moryo,” Fëanor said, leaning down until he could see his son.

“It’s not fair!” Caranthir cried, scrubbing at his eyes with one fist. “She’s the first – and she likes me – and don’t make me give her to Tyelko.”

“Hush,” Fëanor said, lifting his son and the kitten up. “It will be fine, you don’t have to give her to Tyelko.”

“Curvo said I would. He said that I had too bad of a temper, and that I couldn’t take care of her on my own.” Caranthir continued to sniffle

“Tyelko can’t take care of his pets on his own either, so I fail to see what difference that makes,” Fëanor said. “Now, why don’t you and her come into the house for dinner with the rest of us, unless you intend to eat whatever insects she can catch.”

Caranthir frowned. “You promise I get to keep her?”

“I promise,” Fëanor replied, stroking the back of his son’s head, until Caranthir shrugged his hand off.

“Fine, I will,” Caranthir said. “But she has to stay with me!”

“Of course.” Fëanor carried Caranthir and the newest member of the household in. “But you have to help give her a flea bath.”

“Of course I will!” Caranthir said. “She loves me, so it’d be wrong to leave her alone for something like that. She’d miss me.”

“She would, and I dare say you’d miss her.”

Caranthir nodded eagerly at this, petting his kitten as they went.
