Summary: Erebor regained, in microcosm

Mended wooden chair and green pool

Someone had mended the chair with twine and wire, winding strands around and between the front legs. It sat oddly on the stone ledge overlooking the green pool, a plain wooden thing, smooth and unadorned, simple shapes of oak. The soft warmth of the wood was stark against the cool depth of the water, the grey solidity of the rock. Yet, in another way, it fit very well. The stone was cracked, the steps uneven, worn by time and the scrape of scales. The pool was clouded, the stream that fed it not yet cleared of rubble. Erebor-regained, in microcosm.
