Author notes: Takes place shortly after Joe and B'Elanna try to sort through the gossip around Kathryn tugging on her ear in sickbay.
Summary: “You’re a cannibal,” he stated, attempting to keep his expression neutral.

Chakotay let himself into Kathryn’s quarters with his override code, he knew she was still in the ready room and would be more than likely be late for dinner. The extra time gave him an opportunity to choose how he was going to tease her over the ship’s latest source of gossip.

Hearing the familiar hiss of the doors opening, he carefully took the still hot dishes from the replicator to the table. “Is this a break?” he asked when Kathryn took her jacket and boots off.

“No I’m done for the day. I think I must have read the same sentence in Kes’s report ten times before I realised it was close to quitting time.”

Kathryn looked at the food already on the table, smiling at how he’d kept dinner simple – baked potato topped with tuna, fried onions and cheese.

“You’re a cannibal,” he stated, attempting to keep his expression neutral.

“Huh?”

“You like to bite my ears,” he added while struggling to keep the amusement out of his voice.

Kathryn rubbed her hand over her face. “I was wondering where that had come from.”

Chakotay chuckled at her reaction. “B’Elanna came to see me at the end of her shift. She told me that Joe overheard Tom and Harry talking about something that happened in sickbay earlier. I did some damage limitation on your behalf.”

Kathryn rolled her eyes at the words damage limitation “while I was in sickbay, after we rescued Tom and Harry from the Akritirian’s, I accidentally tugged my right ear lobe the same way that you do and it wasn’t until I noticed the bemused expressions on Kes and Tom that I realised what I was doing.”

“You’re picking up my habits.”

“No I’m not, I didn’t realise what I’d done.”

“So you say.”
