Author notes: Takes place after Harry and Tom discuss Kathryn tugging on her ear in sickbay. Pretty sure I’ve never written Joe Carey before so a first for that too.
Summary: “Not a lot, we’re friends but we’re not that close. Why?”

Joe walked into engineering, heading straight for B’Elanna’s workstation. “What do you know about the captain’s private life?” he asked, quietly hoping that he’d discover some useful information.

“Not a lot, we’re friends but we’re not that close. Why?”

Casually glancing around the busy workspace, he leant in to speak quietly. “I was repairing a couple of gel packs on deck five when Tom and Harry came out of sickbay. They said that the captain took Chakotay’s earlobe between her teeth and pulled on it,” he glanced around again, clearly embarrassed to be engaging in gossip and innuendo.

B’Elanna snorted at the description. “And?”

“It’s a bit of a strange thing to do.”

“There’s no way...” she paused, “Where did you hear that?”

“I heard Harry say People sometimes pick up the habits of their friends, it doesn’t mean anything. and I thought that...” he stopped realising it was a rather ridiculous speculation from an innocent remark.

“Let me ask around and I’ll find out what really happened because there is no way the captain would do anything like that especially to Chakotay.”

Joe looked worried that he was going to be reprimanded. “Could we keep this discussion private?”

“Of course.”
