A Dropped Stitch

The Doctor has an hour that he's cut out of the continuum and saved like a coupon. It's not a pleasant hour, not one he likes to think about revisiting. It's an hour ripped from the worst days of the Time War, when anything was possible and one carefully hoarded moment might make all the difference between survival and destruction.

In the end, he hadn't needed it. It took almost no time at all to send Gallifrey to its fate, even if it felt to him like multiple eternities. And so he kept it, locked in a special box, hidden away in a safe place. One day he'll probably need it, when he's an hour short and having a time machine doesn't help. (Non-Time Lords -- essentially everyone, now -- don't understand why he doesn't have all the time he wants. But you can only cheat Time when she's distracted, and she doesn't blink often. Having a card up your sleeve is always useful.)

One day, he is sure he will need to see that hour again, whether he wants to or not. He only hopes that when that day comes, he'll finally be able to remember where he put it.

Nice job! As someone who perpetually loses things and is always coming up short on time, I empathize so strongly with his stored hour, one that he won't want to use, but probably will have to.

Heh, yeah, I can sympathize with that, too. I'm sure I've got some lost time around here somewhere. I have no idea where all of it goes. :)

Ha, wow, this is great! Perfectly constructed, not a word wasted. Awesome.

And thanks for breaking the ice over here! Things have been contained on DW so far, but sometimes it just takes someone brave enough to break the ice. :D

Heh, yeah, I was thinking, "But I don't want to be first!" But then I figured, what the heck, somebody has to be, and maybe it'll encourage other people who might be thinking the same thing. I hope so, anyway. :)

Oh, lovely! And so very Doctorish. Funny and yet with a poignant edge. :-)

Oh, I like this. Really bittersweet!

It's very similar to my idea for the challenge (which will have to wait until Monday since it's an image and the scanner is at work) only mine is a bit silly. ;)

Oh, I want to say "lovely" but I suspect that is probably the last descriptor the Doctor would use. Excellent ouchiness!

Thank you! Although I suppose the Doctor copes. Mostly. :)

This is charmingly haunting in the same way the show is at its best. Thanks for sharing!
