I sighed, arms crossed over my chest, surveying the tree that was currently, as I'd anticipated, in flames. You couldn't even see a bit of green anymore.

"Hey man, at least we got it outside first," Ramirez said, positive as ever.

"Sure, but it shouldn't have spontaneously combusted in the first place. Where did you get this thing?"

Ramirez frowned at me. "From the Christmas tree lot. Where else?"

"Was it being run by a warlock?"

"Don't think so." He tilted his head, pondering the tree a moment. "You're the fire guy. Did you do it?"

"Not this time," I said.

"Well," he began, "only one thing to do now."

I frowned at him. "What's that?"

"Get the marshmallows."
