There’s always been a careful balance to the way Scott and Jean and Ororo work together, the way they love together. They’re a unit, a family, and their easy and affectionate touches are born from familiarity and solidarity. They simply know each other, all three of them, on a deep and fundamental level.

Logan’s presence interrupts that balance rather spectacularly.

He’s a wildcard, and Ororo can see the way the dynamic between them is trying to shift, trying to accommodate this new force of energy. But Logan, as in so many things, is too impatient to wait for it to happen naturally.

He muscles in, forms a space for himself through sheer force of will and charisma. He’s rough and oh-so sure of himself, and Ororo has to admit she enjoys the way he pulls her in close and kisses her fiercely with a hunger that’s almost feral.

Logan changes something in Scott and Jean.

Scott is angrier now, looking to prove himself, whereas before he’d been so safe and secure in their arms. Ororo feels for him, and does what she can to assure him, although she has to admit it’s fun to be caught between him and Logan when their competitive spirit flares. Before Scott was sweet, sometimes even shy, too much of his youth spent without any real contact making him savour every second. Now he clutches and, ooh, bites, and Ororo strokes her fingers down his neck, arching up into the feeling of his teeth in her inner thigh.

There’s something in Jean that Ororo isn’t sure she ever truly noticed before, something a little dark, a little fiery. Logan pulls it to the surface without even trying, and there’s an edge to Jean’s smiles now, an almost cruel passion. She’s always been so giving, but now Jean isn’t afraid to take, isn’t afraid to pin Ororo to the mattress and fuck herself down on the curl of Ororo’s tongue. She winds Scott higher instead of calming him as she used to do, and the bed shakes beneath them all when Jean comes.

It’s new and it’s exciting and it works.

Ororo watches the way Scott kisses Jean deep, the way Logan’s hips snap against Scott’s ass, the way Jean twists her fingers in Logan’s hair and pulls. So beautiful, all twisted up together, and she slips into her own space there, moaning for the way Logan’s fingers push inside her, the way Scott and Jean drag their lips over her skin.

Sometimes she thinks they’ve always been waiting for Logan, even before they met him, even before they knew he existed. What they had before, Ororo thought it was perfect, but it’s only now, with the four of them moving together like something impossibly decadent, that she realises she never really knew what perfect could be.
