‘I’m a cop, I’m a cop, I can’t kill him, it’s against the law,’ Dee repeated over and over in his head, fists clenched and teeth gritted, hanging on to his self control by his fingernails.
God dammit, why couldn’t JJ accept that he wasn’t interested? Every damn time they met he found himself trying to fend off the unwanted attention. It was like dealing with a small, excitable puppy crossed with an octopus. Maybe a touch of leech in there too, considering how tightly JJ could cling. For a little guy, he was stronger than he looked.
And what was with the kissing? Right in front of Ryo too! Fuck, how the hell was he going to explain that to his partner? Man, he was having the worst day! So much for thinking he’d escaped JJ for good by moving.
‘Okay, guess it’s time for some damage control, if it isn’t already too late.’
“Ryo, this isn’t what you think it is!”
On the other hand, was that hurt he saw in those beautiful dark eyes? Could it be that Ryo was more interested than he let on?
‘Well,’ Dee congratulated himself smugly, ‘that’s something I can work with.’

It's so hard to find (good) FAKE fanfiction that's set during the manga, especially at such an early stage, so I'm always happy whenever I come across one like this! ^_^
JJ is nearly impossible to fend off, despite being small, I'm sure Dee is convinced he has more arms than other people.
It's a great scene because it says so much about the characters.
Thank you, I'm glad you liked this. I'm working on some FAKE drabbles which I'll be posting on my own journal too. I've read the manga I don't know how many times, but I've only just started writing in the fandom. I'm still finding my way with the characters and the setting, it's very different from my main fandom, Torchwood. Speech patterns in particular are different.
I'm looking forward to reading more of your drabbles. Do you mind if I friend you?
The syntax and the phrasing is very different between the two so I can see where it would be a challenge. You did a good job with capturing Dee's voice.
I have a link on my sidebar to my FAKE master list - not much on it yet, but I have more to post when I can find the time, I've just been rather overloaded with Torchwood drabbles for a challenge, posting two a day which is really all I can fit in. That challenge has ended though, so hopefully I'll get a new FAKE drabble up soon, maybe even today.
There's also the difference between American and British when it comes to choice of words. I'm British, so I've found Ianto easy to write and for some reason, Jack too. Dee is very New York, so that's going to be difficult for me to get to grips with. Ryo is a little easier, he's so polite. Interactions between Dee and Bikky are... rather unique, so I'm a bit bothered about trying to write those. They seem to bring out the worst in each other.
I'm not sure Ryo even realised he was giving away hints that he was interested. I've thought from the start that at some level, Ryo always knew he was gay but was in denial, desperately trying to pretend that he was straight. When Dee came into his life though, the walls started to crumble until he had no choice but to accept who he really was. Dee's such a force of nature, in the end resistance was futile.
