Title: Back Together
Fandom: Chuck
Rating: T
Length: 412 words
Content notes: Spoilers to the end of the series
Author notes: I watched most of Chuck when it was originally on the air. But I lost track of it in the last season. I recently looked it up on Netflix and rewatched it from the beginning. The end left me with a dirty taste in my mouth. This is just a basic reaction to it with a thought of changing history.
Summary: General Beckman has been watching the old team.

Diane Beckman looked at the photos on her desk. Her number one team, the ones she could always count on even when things went south, had fallen apart. She didn’t let it show, but she was sad for them. She had wanted them to be together always, they just worked so well. It had been a year since she gave them a final offer of a job, if they ever wanted it, and she hadn’t heard from any of them.

That was why she had photos. She needed to know what was going on. She had a mission that needed the subtle expertise of team Bartowski, and she wanted them all together. It hadn’t taken much to have a new up and coming spy, eager to please, track down the team. They weren’t in hiding, but she almost wished that they were.

Casey was chasing Gretchen. Still. They were hoping all over the globe. Independent security with a frighteningly accurate knowledge of security and computers. But they didn't seem to take cases with Verbanski Corp. The level of computer expertise needed suggested some other avenue.

And Chuck and Sarah. That relationship tormented her more than any she had ever seen. She may be an old solider, but  was still a romantic at heart. Watching their live blossom had given get hope in the world. And now it  as though it were over. Sarah still didn't remember get life with Chuck. That much was obvious from the pictures. They weren't living together. Sarah was living in Ellis and Devon's old apartment. So at least they were close. But from the pictures of Chuck, he wasn’t handling it well. She could only imagine how hard it must be to try and romance his wife again.

The idiots from the Buy More were spread far and wide. She’d been following Jeffster’s tour of Europe. She never thought they would make it. But they were a hit. Morgan was getting married. To Casey’s daughter of all people. She never thought she’d see it happen. They actually looked happy in the pictures.

Diane fingered the other object on her desk. A pair of dark sunglasses. It had taken time, more time that she would have liked, but she had done it. With the help of Ellie Woodcomb and a team of scientists who lived their entire lives in underground bunkers they had rebuilt the intersect. And they were going to put everything back like it should be.

I love this ending. And how terrific that it's Beckman who makes it happen. I love that Ellie helps, that Morgan and Alex are married and Casey is still into Gretchen and Jeffster lol is on tour. This really made me remember all the things I like about the show - tough people finding their soft side, people trying to build lives for themselves, all the characters -- and fixed the painful ending nicely. Thanks!
