Challenge 57: Amnesty

  • Aug. 21st, 2013 at 12:55 AM
Our new challenge is our ninth

AMNESTY

During amnesty challenges, you can post works for any of the challenges we've had to date:

The Lost Hour, Triangle, Anywhere But Here, Stages, Five Things, Do-Over, Genre, Drag, Communication, Self-Portrait, Breakfast, Performance Anxiety, Double, Role Reversal, Win or Lose, Old Friends, Mythology, Wire, Cliché, Secrets, Borrowed Title, School, Ghosts and Gore, Warmth, Interruptions, Solitary, Apology, Season, Masks, Elusive or Ephemeral, Introductions, Diamonds and Pearls, The Other Side, Purgatory, Horoscope, Candles, Not What It Looks Like, Games, Comfort, Teaching, Technology, Dangling, Kids, Silver Lining, Stuck, Spicy, Bruise, Entertaining

Of course, you're always welcome to post multiple works to any challenge if you finish them before the challenge closes, but that isn't always possible. So dust off those unfinished works and half-formed ideas -- now is the time! Please include the challenge you are posting for in the subject line of your post (ie: Secrets Challenge: Teenwolf: Vid: Secret Agent Wolf).

Each work created for this challenge should be posted as a new entry to the comm. Posting starts now and continues up until the challenge ends at 4 p.m. PST on Sunday, September 1st. No sign-up required.

Mods will tag your work with fandom, media and challenge. When you've posted entries to three consecutive challenges, you will earn a name tag, and we'll go back and tag all your previous entries with your name.

All kinds of fanworks in all fandoms are welcome. Please have a look at our guidelines before you play.

Also, [personal profile] down suggested our newest bonus mode for badge earning: Medalling Up. Once you've earned a Skills Training or Miscellaneous badge with the usual requirements, you can go on to earn the Silver Medal version of the same badge by doubling its requirements. Triple the requirements to earn Gold! The new and shinier versions of the badges will look something like the samples below:

ETA: The works you posted to earn the ordinary version of each badge DO count toward the total required to earn silver and gold, but all of the additional works will need to have been posted after this announcement's date...UNLESS you make a post in this challenge. If you do, we will allow you to bring forward one previously posted work to Medal Up in the future.

If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact a mod. And if you have any suggestions for future challenges, you can leave them in the comments of this post. \o/

Me to, I might need help with the posting part though. I have never posted in this only ever on AO3 and FF.net, so may need the help. Thank you for this xx

Oh, welcome, then! First posts can be intimidating, but we try to be a friendly kind of place. We like newcomers! :)

You might want to have a look at the basic coding section of our guidelines if there's anything you aren't sure about:

http://fan-flashworks.livejournal.com/738.html#cutid19

AO3 and FF.net are similar in a lot of ways, but there are some minor differences. LJ has a few helpful guides in their Help > FAQ section, too. And of course if you run into any trouble, I am always reachable here or at the "Contact a Mod" post. Or you can send me a message. :)

Sorry, I've been out all day and didn't have a chance to look it over until now. /o\

It looks like you've got the header right, but we do ask that you post anything you make for fan_flashworks exclusively at the community until the challenge is over. That means you should put the whole story in your post at the community behind a cut tag instead of just the link to your story at your own journal.

Since you have a comment at the post in your own journal already, here's what I suggest you do to fix this up:

1) Click "Edit" on the post at your own journal. Cut out all of the story except the header and paste it into a Notepad or Word doc, then replace it with a link to your post on fan_flashworks. Save the changes.

2) Copy this code:

<cut>

Click "Edit" on your post at fan_flashworks. Paste the code you copied on the line below your author's notes. Then go copy the whole text of your story from your Notepad or Word doc. Paste it on the next line of your post at fan_flashworks. Save that post...and you're done! Hopefully! You should have a post on your own journal with just a link to your story, which should all be behind a cut tag here at the community. :)

Let me know if you have any trouble or questions. Sorry it took so long to get back to you!

I want to cry i can't do it, i don't know what a code is or how to put it under a cut. I think i will have to give up as i have failed and let you down. I tried following your instructions but i just can't seem to get a link

Aw, no! You're getting there! You just need to copy this (the "bracket-cut-bracket" thing below):

<cut>

Then click "Edit" on your fan_flashworks post and paste it right below the bit that says "Summary: When Ray is injured he needs Comfort and finds it in Ben. ". Like, right on the next line. Then save and you should be all set. Let me know how that goes!

I see the problem! When you click edit, you should see a couple of buttons at the top right hand side of the post box: Rich Text|HTML. Click HTML, THEN paste the thing from my comment above. Then save. Did that work?

Okay, I see you're actually most of the way there. This time, click here:

http://pastebin.com/CPvuz40t

Copy everything by clicking the little clipboard, the one the arrow's pointing to here:

Go back to your fan_flashworks post and click "Edit", then click into HTML. Select EVERYTHING in the post and delete it. Then paste what you copied from the first site and save. How does that look?

I have gone through everything fixed everything and it is still like this, i can't see what the problem is, but at least the link is working

Hi there, vickitub!

I've had a look at your entry (yay, Due South fic!!), and I think I see the problem. It's fine -- it'll be really easy to fix.

1. Make sure you're in HTML mode, like Sprat said above. (When you click edit, you should see a couple of buttons at the top right hand side of the post box: Rich Text|HTML. Click HTML.)

2. Now, see where your story starts "<Ray had been feeling sore"? You just need to change that to "<cut>Ray had been feeling sore".

3. And where the story ends "The End>", replace that with "The End</cut>".

That's all you have to do!

(The <cut> and </cut> are called tags, and they tell Dreamwidth where to start and end the cut, so that not all the story shows on people's reading lists or the front page of the comm.)

Good luck!

Thank you ever so kindly I will do that today. I am thrilled you like that its Due South its the only fandom I write as I know it best. I hope that you liked the story itself.

Have a fab day xx

I've got to sleep, but do give this a try and let me know how it goes. If the story is still not posting nicely for you after you've tried these instructions, you might want to remove the post or make it private and we can work on it again tomorrow. :)
