The Chronicles of Narnia: Fanfic: Not Quite

  • Jun. 19th, 2013 at 11:32 PM
Title: Not Quite
Fandom: The Chronicles of Narnia
Rating: G
Length: 167
Warning: None
Summary: Playing pretend is not always that easy.
Notes: PoV of Lucy Pevensie.

There is a game that children play, and they are not very good at it. Play pretend, they call it, since they use their imagination to go to other worlds where anything is possible. They are easily distracted, though, their imagination pausing or disappearing whenever biscuits are promised or bedtime draws near.

But, you… You are very good at playing pretend.

You can stay within your head for hours, dreaming of a world where anything is possible, where you are a queen, ruling beside your brothers and sister, having one adventure after another and in the evenings, you sing songs with the trees. A world so mysterious and magical that you don’t want to come back to the real world.

You only wish you knew where such ideas have come from, and you wish they didn’t disappear quite so easily day after day, until one day, you find it hard to play pretend at all.

Because you can’t remember, this wonderful world in your head, and you wish so much that you could.
