Miroku had spent most of his morning outside tending to his daily task of hanging the laundry out to dry. His daughters scurried about near the hut, playing a child’s game. Watching them with a fondness, he bounced his baby son who was secured to his back in the sling.

The sound of a feminine cry for help paused Miroku in his actions. He looked around, before finding the young flower crouched on the ground. Dropping the woven basket of laundry, Miroku went to help her, being careful not to dislodge his son from the sling.

“Do you need any help fair lady?” Miroku asked the young girl, offering her his hand to help her up.

“Thank you kind sir,” she whimpered taking his hand. Helping her up, Miroku steadied her with a hand to her back. She fell against him, whimpering about her twisted ankle.

“You should stay off of it,” Miroku held her so that she could steady herself.

“Miroku!”

The angry pitch of his wife’s voice drug his attention away from the wounded girl he held against his chest. He met Sango’s fiery gaze across the yard, before realization kicked in. Flustered, Miroku shook his head, “Sango, it’s not what it looks like!”

“Oh yeah? Cause it looks like I’m about right,” her anger flared as she stomped toward them. “In front of our kids even?!”

Miroku sighed, “Sango, please.”

Sango pulled back her arm and slapped him hard across the face. She grumbled and went to grab her son, “Whenever you are done, we are a having a talk.” She turned and strode back toward their home, her fury evident in her long stride.

Heaving a heavier sigh, Miroku looked to the young girl still leaning on him for support, “Are you alright?”

She bowed her head before a boyish laugh emitted from her. She transformed in a puff of smoke with a weight landing on Miroku’s shoulder.

“You know, it’s so easy to play tricks on you,” Shippo said, swishing his tails.

“That was not very nice.” Miroku said, between clenched teeth.

“But it was fun!” Shippo laughed.

A tick started behind Miroku’s eye as he grabbed the kit from his shoulder, “One of these days, Shippo, I’ll get you back.” Miroku growled before tossing him to the ground as he headed after his wife, “SANGO!”

Shippo crossed his arms and pouted, “Ya’ll aren’t any fun.”
