Summary: It's more than just a mobile, but it is only a mobile.



"Okay, look up, I'm on the rooftop."

He still has his mobile, of course. The mobile. That moblie. You can't get by without a mobile these days, or so he's told.

"I... I can't come down, so we'll just have to do it like this."

But he never uses it. There are no cases, so there's no reason to speak to Greg. As for Harry, well, he never spoke to her if he could avoid it.

"An apology. It's all true."

It had been mostly used texting anyway, but who was there to text now?

"It's a trick, just a magic trick."

He didn't talk much anymore outside of work. He didn't do much of anything and he liked it that way.

"Please, will you just do this for me."

Every time he looks at it, it reminds him. Every single time.

"This phone call. It's, um, it's my note."

He hates his mobile, absolutely hates the bloody thing. He wishes he could throw it away or smash it into a million pieces, but he can't.

"It's what people do, don't they? Leave a note."

And therein lies the rub, the mobile's tidy little trap.

"Goodbye, John."

It's his link to Sherlock's last moments; a tie to the person he was then as well as the shell he has become.
