Due South: PodFic: Poker Face

  • Jan. 7th, 2013 at 1:30 PM
Title: Poker Face (podfic)
Fandom: Due South
Characters: Ray Kowalski, Benton Fraser
Rating: Teen
Length: ~2.5 mins
Summary: Ray is frustrated by Fraser's poker face.
Disclaimer: I didn't create these characters, I don't own them, I derive no profit from their use.
Podficcer Notes: A somewhat slapdash experiment in podficcery.  You may all now laugh at my total lack of recording equipment and audio editing software. :) The fic is one I wrote for an earlier fan-flashworks challenge.  ETA: Embedded link now goes to higher-sound-quality version, which I hope solves the distortion problem I was getting earlier.

I was looking for a short fic to try a fairly theatrical podfic style, and kind of cheated with my selection: this one is basically a monologue rather than narrative with dialogue and different voices and whatnot, anyway.  Also, due to lack of time & tech for editing, I used the strategy of recording multiple takes of the whole thing until I got one I liked, which works fine for a piece this length but obviously would not scale at all well.  Call it about 0.5 proof-of-concept.  But fun to do. :)

If you prefer to download files to your computer, click here for smaller-size, lower sound-quality version or here for larger-size, higher sound-quality version.

Oh hey, I really liked your reading! You're very expressive. I see what you mean about this being a monologue rather than straight-up narrative, and it does feel to me like I can hear your theater background.

You should cross-post this to [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon after the challenge is over, if you want more podfic people to see it. : ) Although be aware that if you post it there, it will automatically be archived on the audiofic archive.

Thanks!

I think that's (currently) the appeal of podfic to me -- the...er, "performance" isn't even really the word I want, but playing the characters, as instantiated through narrative voice and/or dialogue. That wasn't very articulate, was it? :)

No, you're making sense to me! That appeals to me, as well. If the writing is in first person POV or in tight third, I definitely feel like I'm performing (or whatever word fits best) the character in the narration as well as in the dialogue.
