“Mine is going to be bleeding.”

Ben raised an eyebrow and looked over the table at Hunter. “Your pumpkin will be bleeding?”

“Totally, dude. I even bought fake blood.”

“I thought you said you’d never carved a pumpkin before, Pal.”

Hunter shrugged, stabbing the large pumpkin with a knife. “Haven’t. But it’s going to be the most badass pumpkin ever.”

Ben chuckled, going back to his own pumpkin and checking his watch. Michael was running late, he was going to miss all the fun.

They were out back, lighting their respective pumpkins when they heard the screaming.

“Ben! Hunter! Are you guys okay?” Michael was out of breath and huffing by the time he reached the backyard.

Hunter stood up, having just lit the candle in his pumpkin and scowled. “What the fuck is wrong with you, dude? You’re too old to be screaming like that you’re going to have a heart attack.”

His arms were still crossed across his chest. “There is blood everywhere, you little shit.”

Ben had been standing back, silently enjoying the domestic scene until Michael mentioned the blood. Then he lost it. Hunter and he were almost crying before he could gasp out, “It’s fake.”

“Told you,” Hunter was grinning. “Most badass pumpkin ever.” They were all standing back admiring the pumpkin with the blood dripping from its obvious head wound.

“I suppose it isn’t so bad,” Michael was still angry.

Ben wrapped his arm around the smaller man, whispering to him. “It is a pretty badass pumpkin, don’t you think?” He let his lips brush against Michael’s temple softly.

“Yeah, whatever.” Michael sighed. It was a pretty impressive pumpkin. He felt himself start to smile. “I still hate you both though.”

“You fucking love us, dude.” Hunter flung his arms around Michael’s neck quickly, surprising all three of them.

“I do,” Michael’s eyes shone as he looked over at Ben. “I really do.”
