Title: Where The Wild Things Are
Fandoms: Slings & Arrows
Characters: Geoffrey Tennant
Rating: Teen
Length: 230 words
Disclaimer: I didn't create these characters, I don't own them, I derive no profit from their use.
Summary: The wild things were always inside him

He’s always felt too much, shouted too loudly, cried too easily, wanted too deeply.  He fought through adolescence like a swamp, learning to dazzle with his verbal dexterity, his erudition, his charm.  Keep your eyes on my hands, let my patter lull you.  Don’t look into my eyes or you might spy the monster behind the curtain.  He’d almost bought his own act.  Believed that the tempest and turmoil flowed from the text into himself, when of course it was the other way around all along and all it took was one little tap in just the right spot to shatter the walls that kept the monsters from pouring from his eyes and lips, thrashing his limbs in ecstasy/pain drowning/dancing under the lunatic moon that shines all the time now, even when his eyes are squeezed shut.  Can't contain the Mad Rumpus nor control it nor perform it -- it's out in the world now, breaking glass and drawing blood and screaming and no fun at all -- but it's in him too, so he can't outrun it.  All he can do is huddle in the dark, whispering the words, the text, the only thing that all the wildness within him cannot rip to shreds nor burn to ashes. . .

. . .Two of these fellows you must know and own; this thing of darkness I acknowledge mine. . .

Gives me the shivers. I like that you went to the darker side, the part that the show didn't really delve into. Very eloquent prose.

Thanks!

Yeah, that's one of the things that makes S&A a rich fic-writing environment. They ride a pretty good balance, I think, of treating the madness as comic / not entirely real / real and scary to both Geoffrey and the people around him. (The scene with Geoffrey and Oliver in lock-up, where Geoffrey is freaked out because he's *afraid* he's crazy, for example. And the way that Geoffrey talks dismissively about his breakdown a lot of the time. He's been through something bad and come out the other side and -- especially in season 1 -- is terrified of falling back in there.)

Ooh. Beautiful and believable and haunting and shiver-inducing. Oh, Geoffrey.

Kudos!

I read this, and my first thought, of course, was mad Geoffrey... and my next was dead Oliver. Geoffrey fits just that smidgen more (depending on how insanely chaotic one considers the afterlife to be) but what a wonderful piece of writing. In fact, the very fact that identity is blurred here makes it even more wonderfully a portrayal of madenss. (Sorry if I'm incredibly dense by the way.)

Oh, interesting... This is, of course, one of those cases where the protocol of labeling the fic with stuff like what fandom, what character, etc. means that it's possible to leave out some necessary information and assume the reader knows it already. I seem to have switched from writing with the assumption that fandom was all the context the reader would have, to writing with the assumption that they'd have more meta-information than that.

Anyway, I was thinking Geoffrey; Oliver hadn't occurred to me. But now I really want to write an Oliver-POV companion to this one, around the idea that at least the first line could equally well apply to Oliver as to Geoffrey. Hm... :)

Oh that would be wonderful. I look forward to reading it sometime.

Oh, Geoffrey. I liked this line: Believed that the tempest and turmoil flowed from the text into himself, when of course it was the other way around all along
