A/N: Quick thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mander3_swish for the read through. And enduring questions about posting this properly. First entry here. Hopefully many more to come?! Not beta-d. Just posting by the seat of my pants today!

“Daph,” he sighed heavily into the phone. “I just don’t feel like I fit in here.”

She rolled her eyes hard enough that she was certain he could feel it through the phone lines. “It isn’t high school. It’s a city. There is someone and something for everyone.” She was flipping through one of her textbooks, hoping the information for tomorrow’s test would magically implant itself into her brain. It hadn’t worked so far. And listening to Justin was way less stressful than studying anyway. She closed the book, pulled her legs up against her chest and tried to find the right words.

“Are you there?”

“Yeah,” she said softly finally. “I just don’t know what to say. I mean,” she paused. “You know you’re going to make it right?”

“But does it matter if I’m in New York? Or if I’m in Pittsburgh?”

“Are we going to have this talk every weekend?”

“Until you come visit.”

“I told you. I’ll be there over Christmas break. I’ll stay for a few days then we’ll both
go back home together.” Her voice got softer. “Okay?”

“Yeah.”

“You’re going to be fine. You can do this. Maybe you need to call Brian and talk to him?”

“Yeah right,” he almost snorted. “And say what? Hey Brian? I don’t have any friends. Will you be my friend?”

“You’re going to make me pull something in my eyeball if I keep rolling them at you like this. Seriously, just talk to him about how you feel? You do know you can talk and not just fuck, right?”

“We do talk.”

“And what do you say?”

He shrugged and fell silent.

“When was the last time that you told him about how you felt about New York?”

“A few months ago?” He paused and thought. “Yeah. I was home for the weekend and told him I felt like a stranger in a strange land.”

“What did he say?”

“To stop reading books.”

Daphne was laughing so hard she almost choked. “Well he has a point.”

“I didn’t know it was a fucking book, Daph. Stop laughing.”

She was almost gasping for air. “I needed that, thanks.”

Justin found himself smiling, as well. “Yeah. Me too.”

“Hey, I have to go. This test is going to kick my ass. We’ll Skype tomorrow, okay?”

“Sure. Hey Daphne?”

“Yeah?”

“I am going to make it.”

She felt her face stretch into a huge smile. “I know you will.”

Justin flopped back on his bed, as he hung up with Daphne and dialed Brian’s number
immediately.

“Sunshine.” Justin could hear he was inhaling as he spoke.

“Question.”

“Shoot.”

“Is horny in New York a book?”
