She always kisses his scars. The light brush of lips is gentle on his skin as she brushes aside the grime of every battle, every fight, to give him comfort.

He would never admit that he would look forward to that moment when his best friend would tend to his injuries after they had won, her smile hopeful when she kisses the scars that litter his forehead and cheek. He would never admit how much he craved Hermione’s touch.

But, later, when he sees her hand in hand with his other best friend, Harry doesn’t feel like he had won.
