He was a simple farmer when the summons came to call the banners. He had just turned one and five, when he was told that their liege lord was going to war. No one knew why their lord chose battle, but it wasn’t their role to question.

His father gave him the armour he once wore, rusted and ill-fitting it was, but filled with history of the previous rebellion. Then his mother kissed his forehead and made him promise to return.

His father survived; perhaps, he would too.

It was not about winning or losing; it was about coming home.
