Title: The Life I Live(d)
Fandom: Do Over
Type: Fanmix (I think) - 5 songs
Rating: G
Summary: The second chance is easy. Figuring out what to do with it is the hard part.
1. I couldn't resist using the Do-Over challenge for the show called Do Over.
2. This is my first attempt at anything resembling a fanmix. I have no idea if I'm doing it right.
3. I'm squicky about linking to songs, so I tried to provide the info that would let people find the songs on their own if they so choose. Apologies if this is Not the Way It's Done. There are no graphics because I have no graphic-making skills.
Song: Homesick
Artist: Soul Asylum
Album: Grave Dancer’s Union
Though I would not take it personally,
It’s just the child in me
Never really knew how much it had.
Woe is me, I am so homesick
but it ain’t that bad
‘cuz I’m homesick for the home I never had.
Song: Same Man I Was Before
Artist: Oingo Boingo
Album: Dead Man’s Party
I’m not the same man I was before
I haven’t changed my perception
I haven’t lost my protection
I haven’t lost, haven’t lost, haven’t lost
What I have lost intentions
I’m not the same boy I was before
But I’ve not changed my desires
I’ve not extinguished the fires
I haven’t lost wide eyed wonder
I haven’t lost, haven’t lost, haven’t lost
The stupid fear of thunder
Song: Days and Days
Artist: Concrete Blonde
Album: Bloodletting
Like every heart to beat before
And every wave to kiss the shore
I’m not the first, I’m not the last
And soon to be your past.
But every morning when the light
Comes creeping in around my eyes
Another future falls behind
The one I had in mind.
Song: Life of My Own
Artist: 3 Doors Down
Album: The Better Life
Now I’ll follow my own way, and I’ll
Live on to another damn day
Freedom carries sacrifice,
Remember when this was my life
Looking forward, not behind
Everybody’s got to cross that line
Free me now to give me a place,
Keep me caged and free the beast
Falling faster, time goes by,
Fear is not seen through these eyes
What there was will never be,
Now I’m blind and cannot see
Song: The Future’s So Bright
Artist: Timbuk 3
Album: Some of the Best of Timbuk 3: Field Guide
I’m heavenly blessed
And worldy wise
I’m a peeping-Tom techie
With X-ray eyes.
Things are going great
And they’re only getting better.
I’m doing all right
Getting good grades.
The future’s so bright
I gotta wear shades.
When we first meet Joel Larsen, he’s an unhappy 34-year-old paper salesman with little to show for his life. After receiving a massive electric shock, he wakes up in his 14-year-old body in 1980. He soon realizes that the failures and humiliations that shaped his life are now all in the future and he has been given the chance to change them before they become defining negative moments. However, faced with the prospect of reliving puberty and his high school years, he has trouble letting go of the adult life he left behind and relearning how to see through the eyes of a teenager. After a disastrous birthday where he tries to celebrate as a 35-year-old and not a 15-year-old, he finally recognizes and chooses to embrace the opportunity he’s been given.
The songs were selected to highlight Joel's progression from being, basically, a time-traveler trapped in the past with his worst years in front on him, to being a teenager with the foresight to live his life the way it should be lived.
