Title: Fannish Crypto-Lists
Fandom: Multifandom/meta
Rating: G

Notes/explanation:

Three cryptograms, in list format. If you're unfamiliar with this kind of puzzle, basically it's a simple code in which one letter is substituted for another. (e.g., A might become R, B become L, C become Z, etc.) Each list uses the same code for all entries, but the code is different for each list. Every item in the list will fit the list theme.

The way to go about solving these is to look for patterns, and to pay attention to how frequently and in what combinations the letters pop up. It's a good idea to keep a key to help you as you go: write out the alphabet and note the real letters underneath the code letters as you figure them out.

For those who need it, the answer key is here. That's a back-dated entry on my own LJ. I've done it that way because the last time somebody posted a puzzle, I printed it out so that I could work on it, and even though the solution was blanked out in the post, it still showed up on the printout, and I almost spoiled myself for the answers. I hope that's OK.

I'm quite fond of them, myself. :)

That was fun! :D I got them once I re-read your post and realised they were three different cryptograms :P The word processor's "find and replace" option made it a lot faster, especially with capital Ii and lower case Ll, lol.

Heh. Sorry that confused you at first. I tried to be clear about it, because it seemed like a very natural mistake to make, but it was probably easy to overlook the information in that great big note. :)

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and now I'm kicking myself for not thinking of that search-and-replace technique when I was making the puzzles.

That's a fun idea for the challenge. :-)

I got the first set pretty quickly... but mainly because the first sf show I think of is clearly the same as you - or at least, the one you put first!

Heh. I did wonder whether I ought to put that one further down the list. :)

No, no. That's its right and proper place!! ;-)

I think it should have been further down the list, because although it's the correct place for it in any list, it did make that chunk quite easy. I actually managed to do most of the first list in my head. After that though, it got difficult! And I'm sure if that first one had been hidden I'd have found it trickier.

But I loved this, struck me as such a wonderfully weird and whacky take on the challenge... some people are just wonderfully creative. I really did enjoy myself.

You're probably right about that, although I guess it's not such a bad thing to have at least one that's easy. And thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

The last one was my favourite... I felt such a sense of accomplishment figuring it out, and the answers all made me laugh. :)

I have to say, I had the most fun making that one. :)
