Overcoming obstacles, most importantly yourself, is one of the many great stages of falling in love. For some, those stages come in rapid succession, but for you… for you they’re like wisps of smoke sneaking through the cracks of your protective shell. It takes time for you to see what has been there all along.

You almost lost it all, not because of your own doing, but because of hate and ignorance. It was as if as soon as you accepted the love you felt for him it began to drain away, the blood pooling on the cold hard cement.

Here the cement is hot beneath your feet. It’s been so long since you’ve seen his smile that the seasons have changed. Time didn’t stop for him, for you; it kept going and now who knows how much time is left.

You kiss him now on the street, not caring who sees, because you want him to feel what you feel for him, even though you can’t quite say it yet.
