(Actually, question: is Diablo 3 any good? I'm probably getting a PS4 relatively soon, and I've wanted to try a game in the series since playing Torchlight back in the day. I just don't know if you need in-depth series knowledge to appreciate the third game.)
As for Diablo 3, yeah, I am a big fan! Overall it's not quite as much of a masterpiece as 2 was, but it's still getting big updates now, they've tweaked and fixed the parts I had issues with, and it's just fun. I am completely enamoured with the lore as well.
You don't need to have full indepth knowledge to enjoy it, either. The game fills you in well enough with backstory delivered in easy bites as you go along, and hell, I played 3 before going back and trying 2. xD
