XCOM 2: Fic: Victory in Victory Square

  • Dec. 10th, 2016 at 7:12 PM
Title: Victory in Victory Square
Fandom: XCOM 2
Rating: General
Length: 100 words
Content notes: Player characters on an earth ruled by aliens. Part of a series of drabbles based on my favourite randomly-supplied XCOM soldiers.
Summary: Sometimes characters (*cough*or players*cough*) celebrate prematurely...

Weeks they'd been chasing her without success, but finally the Berserker Queen was cornered in Victory Square. Ricardo squeezed the trigger on his rifle and she fell. Statues toppled with her and half of what used to be a civic building crumbled around the enormous corpse.

"That's my boy!" Shane yelled, firing his machine gun into the air. "Take that, alien scum!"

There was a hiss behind him, and he froze.

Ricardo dropped his empty rifle and drew his pistol, shaking his head.

"Might want to finish the mission before you celebrate, sweetheart."

Hah! I laughed. (Also, yesss, I'm not the only one who's written generic character fic, though for different fandoms than XCOM.)

(Tangentially related: Is XCOM 2 good? I'm probably getting a PS4 early next year, and I remember really enjoying what I got a chance to play of the first (well, the first in the reboot series, I guess) game.)

Hehe, thanks! It's always good to meet an XCom fan, I'm a complete addict. This particular squad was just a constant source of entertainment from the moment Shane turned up in lace-up leather shorts looking like a porn star. Some of the costume options are outrageous :D

I love it, though I have to admit it makes things a little bit easier than Enemy Unknown/Within - grenades can't miss, for example. But anything that makes it easier to set aliens' heads on fire is okay by me. I'm currently playing it on the PS4 as my graphics card died on me, and it's great, near perfect UI and very intuitive controls. I definitely recommend it :)
