Nobunagun: Fic: Unsent

Title: Unsent
Author: [personal profile] jordannamorgan
Fandom: Nobunagun
Characters: Sio.
Setting: Sometime after episode five.
Rating: G.
Length: 424 words.
Summary: Sio makes a confession, sort of.

I have a confession to make, Asao.

After all these months of complaining about him… I think I might actually be falling for Jack.

It’s crazy, right? I mean, the guy literally shares his personality with Jack the freakin’ Ripper. If that isn’t the definition of the guy your mother warned you about, I don’t know what is.

I can just hear you laugh and say it’s my “fascination with dangerous toys” again. And I don’t know, maybe you’re right. Jack is so insanely cool in a fight with an E.I., I can’t even forget it when he’s being a jerk. (Not even when he’s being cool and a jerk at the same time—because yes, he can totally do that. I’ve got no idea how.)

But then, maybe it’s something about what a mystery he is. I wish I could get his real story. It was only just recently that I even learned his real name.

I didn’t tell you about that before, did I? Anyway, it’s Adam. Adam Muirhead. Has a really nice British ring to it, doesn’t it?

And that’s all I’ve got. I still don’t know anything about who Adam is when he’s not Jack… or even if he’s really anyone but Jack at all. With a lot of other E-gene holders, it’s so much easier to tell where one personality begins and the other ends, but Jack seems like he’s never switched off. He’s kind of like Norman Bates that way, you know?

—I mean, not because he’s a psycho with a big knife. (Even though he is.) I mean it’s because he must be all Jack a lot of the time, but I don’t think he’s ever all Adam.

Maybe that’s really what this is all about. Even when he ticks me off, maybe I’m so drawn to Jack because I can’t figure him out.

Well, that, and because he’s kind of hot.

Frowning at the screen of her phone, Sio Ogura breathed out a little huff. Her thumb hesitated for a moment before pressing the Save to Drafts button, and she watched the email she had crafted disappear into her Unsent Messages box, where it joined a hundred others.

…It was probably a good thing DOGOO didn’t let her have internet access. It kept her out of trouble, right? After all, if Asao ever really read the unsent ramblings Sio had written to her, she would never be able to live it down.

The thing was, it helped just to put all these thoughts into words somewhere.

*applause*

There aren't too many of us who write for Nobunagun, so this is a pleasant surprise!

*laughs* Thanks. Nice to see someone else who knows "Nobunagun"--this was the last entry I'd have expected anyone to comment on! In fact, I'm only halfway (six episodes) through it so far, but it's such a fun series.

As for this ficlet, I actually spent the last two days out of town, waiting out Hurricane Matthew (fortunately I got back to find my residence unaffected). I was afraid I'd miss this prompt under the circumstances... but then I watched a couple more "Nobunagun" episodes at the hotel, and that gave me the inspiration for this. :)
