Title: Empirical Evidence
Fandom: Avengers (Marvel Movies Universe?)
Rating: PG-13
Length: ~ 400 words
Characters: Agent Coulson
Content notes: Spoilers for the Avengers (which I still haven't managed to see all of *pouts*)
Summary: Um. Fixing-it ... sort of?

The empirical evidence says that he should be dead (a sceptre right through his chest). He felt his ribs splinter and spread and his muscles rip and tasted the bitter copper of blood as he turned his death (inevitable) into just another tool (a whip for Fury to use) to bind together a team of superheroes (kindergarteners) into something that might be able to bring down Loki's plan.

The empirical evidence says something is wrong (his mind is clear - he can breathe - it doesn't hurt); this isn't any SHIELD facility he's aware of (the bed is wrong - there's no nest for his assets - he can taste honey) and the field suit he never wears is draped over a chair (within reach and it's drape says all his weapons are present).

The empirical evidence says Asgard (and that Thor and Loki have more in common with each other than either will admit) and the mead Thor insisted on toasting the team's formation with (but it doesn't say whether this was a one way trip - the pain and the tiredness are gone though) and he knows his Norse mythology (he wouldn't have called himself a candidate for Valhalla).

The empirical evidence says (unfortunately) wait; gather information. Make a plan (wear the damn field suit), execute it (he has assets to get back to), debrief (definitely Thor's mead, because he can taste the rest of the flavours now) and get back to his office (his sanctuary - put his ring back on - where it belongs).

The empirical evidence doesn't say what state his Spider and his Hawk are in. He probably needs to apologise to them (he doesn't regret what he told Fury to do, but he does regret leaving them - even temporarily) or for them (there's a reason why he remained their handler).

I kind of regret having commented on this before I'd had my caffeine this morning, because wow, it deserves more than two words. So this time I'll mention that I've come back three times -- now four -- to reread this because there's just that much packed into it, and it's so beautifully done.

Shhh! I'm used to being in itsy-bitsy fandoms these days and I feel spoilt just getting a comment!

*g*

I'm glad it worked - the style I used doesn't always. And I guess I'm too fond of my myths - this seemed like the obvious fix, given that they had Thor on the team.

I'm glad - I've seen the Marvel Shorts and the other movies, but I still haven't seen most of the Avengers itself (ill-health and inaccessible theatres suck), but someone spoilt me and I've been sulking since.

This is also really lovely - I love your Coulson, and I love his relationship with Hawkeye and Black Widow!

Eeee I hadn't even thought of him actually being TAKEN to Asgard for his ressurection, but it so totally makes sense lol. *snuggleshimandsqueesattheringcomment*

*grins*

He was fighting along side Thor ...

(He's going to have a quiet tantrum when he finds out how to return to Midgard)
