Summary: The TARDIS is thinking about the one night she spent in a different form.



They were floating freely in space now. Idris could feel the movement inside her slowly crawling to a halt, and then stop. Even time lords had to sleep on occasion, and he trusted her to keep them either going in the direction he needed to go into, or stay static and keep him and any companions who happened to be around safe.

She never went to sleep, she was always watchful. For one night, about a week ago - if you thought in those terms, which as a TARDIS, she could do sometimes, when she felt like it - she had assumed a shape not unlike that of the female creatures of his species, had been beside him instead of around him, or of waiting around until he'd messed up whatever planet they were on that week and used her as a getaway.

She knew him so well, but that night had made her realise that, after all these years, he still didn't know her at all. Maybe these frequent regenerations really did something to his central processing unit, maybe he'd simply failed to realise that time lord technology was unlike the human technology he liked to surround himself with when on his favourite planet. He had spent an awful lot of time around humans, it was only natural that some of that would rub off.

It had changed him, seeing her like that. He'd spent less time yelling at her if he yanked the wrong levers again or if she wasn't going as fast as he wanted because that was technically impossible. It hadn't really changed her, although she had to admit that simply having another shape, rather than just someone renovating what was there, had been nice for a change.

She did a mechanical version of smiling to herself. It had been only for one night, and no doubt he would be back to his old ways soon enough, but she was determined to enjoy this while it lasted.
