Dezo. The snows extended as far as Rolf could see. Not that he cared. The numbness in his heart did not involve the cold, no matter how intense it became on that planet.

No, he continued to think of Nei, to listen for her voices upon the winds that lashed the landscape, but no voice came to him, only the echoes of his own thoughts.

He and his friends still had a mission, and he had made that his focus, his source of urgency, but still he listened for Nei, hoped to hear her greet him again.

He never would.
