* * * *

"Sho, I can levitate you if you standing in front of me," Nagi said, "but it can be difficult, and I run the risk of dropping you if you are too close to the edge of my sphere of influence. That, and fluctuations in gravity around me can potentially tear your limbs off." Not a thought that Sho enjoyed, but at least she made certain that he had full awareness of the risks. "So, to avoid that, please stand behind me and put your arms around my waist. No need to hold tight, but you can if it helps you feel secure." He did, perhaps from instinct. The idea of being high up in the air had that effect.

A second of disorientation for Sho as Nagi engaged her ability to negate gravity, and ... upwards they went. The silence of it impressed Sho first. Nagi could move in any direction and make not a single sound. That explained why she had been in the military for most of her life, since the applications of that ability had almost no limits in a combat scenario. He thought of how many times she must have used that power to stage a one-person ambush, or to snipe a target from a direction that might otherwise be thought impossible. And yet she projected a sense of complete calm.

Soon, they sat together on top of a building, looking down at one of the devastated streets that had been the setting for one of their battles only moments before, and Nagi said, perhaps sensing unspoken questions, "Most of it is calculation. After learning it inside and out, all I have to do is run the figures in my head for where I want to go, and how fast. In the beginning, it was like throwing myself around on a set of invisible rubber bands. Very different now, though." A moment of quiet between them, no sound but the ambient noise of the Pillar interior. "So ... now you know. I wanted you to know."

"Thank you, Nagi." It was all Sho could say. None of his surviving teammates had a full set of social graces, but they all wanted to express their trust in him, each in their own way, and Nagi had decided to do it by sharing her Gift of flight with him. Almost no one in the world could have that kind of experience, and she had offered it to him. It made his heart hurt, if only a little. None of them had any idea how many more Judgments lay ahead of them, how many more teammates they would have to sacrifice. And he did not want to lose any more of them, though he might have to at any time.

Nagi had a quiet smile on her face that he noticed from the corner of his eye. If he looked at her directly, he was certain it would disappear, so he let it be, looking down into the ruins instead, enjoying the calm worth of that moment before they headed back.

END.

This was great! Your Nagi is very IC and I laughed at how matter-of-fact she was about dismemberment. Wouldn't quite be Nagi without it. She's one of my favorites from LD so this was nice to see.

Good to see a fellow fan of the game! And I'm glad you liked the story. Plenty of likable characters in there, but Nagi is my favorite.
