Fandom: Donald Strachey Mysteries
Characters: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Rating: G
Notes: This fandom is a mystery series, but it also qualifies as romance. Especially in movie fandom, Don and Timmy are a romantic, sexy couple, and that’s what I tried to convey in this mixed-media project. Also, this little story is told from Timothy’s point of view.

Collage is quite fun to do, especially when I use the ideas offered by mixed-media artist Jane Davies in her book “Adventures in Mixed Media.” This project is called “box within a box,” and it can be used for so many things — a tiny book, a place to collect bits and pieces you can’t bear to throw away, a gift box and more. I used it to describe the four romantic symbols we see in all four of the Donald Strachey Mysteries movies. For my purposes, I stuck to pictures from “Third Man Out.”

I used heavy cardstock and acrylic paint in metallic blue and metallic gold for the scribble-painted base. Other materials include tea-stained paper, silk flowers, ephemera, movie screencaps and a wee gold key.

When you open it, you can see four sections with three pages each. The symbols I used are flowers, candlelight, music and a martini glass.

So as not to bore everyone to death, I’ll only show one set of pages, starting with the martini glass.

Here’s the text for the entire thing:

music

He leads when we dance. Always. For him, it’s important that I follow, to let him know I will always be with him, wherever he goes.

flowers

One day they’ll be roses, he told me, and they won’t come from the grocery store. They won’t be wilted, their colors unnatural. Never bring me roses, I told him. Just bring me yourself.

candlelight

His pale skin glows in the flickering light. His eyes glitter, his lips curve as he regards my naked body. He is beyond beautiful, and he is mine.

martini glass

Belvedere, chilled glasses, a jar of olives and a key in the front door. He’s home, and the night can begin.

Update: Here are photobucket links to the other screencaps I used:

Thank you very much for your kind words — I appreciate them so much. I'm just starting out making collages, and this is a great way to share what I'm learning. This community is especially great at providing fans with an opportunity to stretch their creative wings.

This is beyond delightful! I love the design and cute little blue box that unfolds into such treasure! And you picked perfect vignettes from the movies to make the romance work. Loved it!

What lovely compliments — thank you so much! This project was a lot of fun; the problem was deciding among all the screencaps and doodads I wanted to use.

When you mentioned "vignettes" I remembered I didn't include links to the other screencaps I used. Here they are, if you'd like to see them:

Awww, lovely choices for screencaps! I especially love the one where they are looking at each other.

It looks like a fun project to do. I am almost inspired to make one too!

I'm so glad you like these projects. I'm having so much fun coming up with ideas.

Little boxes are the best. They could contain just about anything!

I love this, the tiny fold out box is so cool, and I love the scribble painted painted paper, and that line

"One day they’ll be roses, he told me, and they won’t come from the grocery store. They won’t be wilted, their colors unnatural. Never bring me roses, I told him. Just bring me yourself."

it is very romantic. <3

Don and Timmy have to be one of the most romantic couples in fandom. They make it easy to come up with new ideas.

The box was quite easy to make. The hard part was narrowing down the items I wanted to use!

Pretty!

(I have a soft spot for little boxes. And handmade books. And romance. :) :) )

Thank you so much for your lovely compliments. :)
